Two strategies for learning the math
There are two ways to approach the mathematics behind machine learning. The bottom-up strategy builds concepts from foundational to more advanced — the preferred approach in technical fields like mathematics, because the reader can always rely on what they previously learned.
The alternative is to start from the application you care about and drill down into the foundations only as needed. Neither is universally right; they suit different readers and different goals.
Bottom-up builds foundations first; top-down starts from the application and digs into theory as needed.
